In 1971, the 3rd gen Dodge Charger got a sleek new body and, with the last year of the 426 Hemi it would be the apex of Mopar power for the rest of the century. The Super Bee, for those on a budget ($1000 less than the R/T), was not longer that ugly Coronet with a bunch of scoops tacked on it, but now a Charger package. If you could empty your wallet, you could have the Charger R/T. It was a tad more upscale with similar interior and different exterior trim. Both features the pop up "Ramcharger" hood scoop as well as hidden headlamps and wipers, a fixed front plastic splitter and rear wing spoiler.
Nice, what sleek but aggressive muscle cars ! I remember when it was first announced that these were going to be done. For anybody new to collecting 1/18th, both these scale beauties are made by Ertl Authentics/Auto World.
You're reading my mind Rich.... I almost posted a Charger shoot yesterday! Too funny. Great pics but I hated these when they were new (and I was a little kid ). I like them now that I'm older; that sloopy-styling grew on me.
@chris I agree, Chris. Compared to the 2nd gen Charger, at first they looked a bit too 'feminine' for me ("A Sexist Would Say!"). The shape did grow on me over the years.

Hmm, a bit too 'feminine'. Well I think I see some similarities between the curves on the Charger's rear quarter panel and the curves on...whoa... nevermind.
I shouldn't be going there....

@chris. I'm in the same boat, too...though I still haven't full warmed to the styling. Nicely executed models for sure.
