Allow me to explain, LSS:

For many years, I've wanted a 1/18 1963 Aston Martin DB5, yet every model had fault(s): poor build quality, minimal detail, dog-leg hinges, goofy trunk hinges, over-sized tires, simplified spokes, etc. etc..   Recently, Autoart re-designed their 1/18 version with better wheels, improved door hinges (almost like the real thing! ) crisper detail....

FINALLY!  A DB5 I could live with!  😎 😎 😎

My only gripes are:

1) Seats do not fold down.

2) No trunk spare.

3) Super lightweight (like all newer AAs with composite bodies ).

HERE'S ALL THE REJECTS:  😫 😫

DB5 1
DB5 2
DB5 3
DB5 4
DB5 5
DB5 6
DB5 7
DB5 8
DB5 9
DB5 10

It is a great-looking and iconic automobile, so I would be delighted with any of them. It such a remarkably cool car that it is no wonder it has been done in scale by many manufacturers.

You raise an interesting point:  This may be the most replicated car is scale-model history.  🤔 🤔 🤔    Even the Batmobile, the General Lee, and Knight Rider would all be distant seconds, right?    ....it seems like it.  🤔 🤔 🤔

OMG Chris! You have a veritable FLEET of rejects! But the AA is fantastic! The wheels and tires are beautifully detailed.

You may be right about it being the most replicated. That or possibly a '63 Vette Split Window???  I Dont Know

Also, because the car is so iconic and recognisable, perhaps model makers can unwittingly become complacent; producing what they think they see rather than what they do in fact see.

Beautiful addition @chris!  The detail & shape looks spot on.  I still have the old Chrono as the wheels on previous AA versions never looked right to me.

Exactly right Gavin!

That being said, however, you'll notice that the rims on those "Gold & Silver rejects"  are actually better than Autoart's, but those BIG  tires and way-too-goofy trunk hinges were deal breakers for me.

I suppose until CMC or Exoto produce a 1963-'64 DB5, Autoart's will be king.   😎 😎

Of course, better but larger scale DB5s exist, but at $27,500 (1/8 ) and $68,900 (1/3 ) they're a bit more  than Autoart's release.  😏 😏

DB5 16
DB5 17
DB5 19
DB5 18

I am amazed how many of those rejects are in my collection. Guess I’ll have to get that updated AA model.

Oops!  Honestly David, it wasn't until AFTER I posted that - hours later - that I realized my verbiage & pics might be misconstrued as being a bit pretentious!

The sole reason for all that was to illustrate my "Goldilocks point,"   that is, I couldn't live with any of those "rejects."    Of course, each one sold very well - Who cares what I think?

I meant NO offense!   Like everyone ALWAYS says, if you're happy - that's ALL that matters!  😀 😀

LoL!   Knowing you like I think I do......     I'm NOT surprised at ALL that you'd prefer ALL THOSE gadgets!    Fret no longer, Autoart has indeed updated that version too.  Merry Christmas!  😎 😀

For Rich!

@chris
No offence taken Chris. I’m a Bond fan and love Aston Martins and have collected far too many. Luckily I have a large crawl space to store undisplayed models that at some point, I will sell or donate.

My main collections are 1/43 but that has not stopped me acquiring far too many other scales. The only 1/18 on display are CMC, Exoto and AutoArt for the same reasons as you.

"Offence"        -  In true Bond fashion ....     "I'm so glad!"

"Crawl space"  -  Funny that you phrase it like this....  I'm just now kind-of starting to do this - moving my junk models (I'll save most for project parts ) "off - site."

After decades of reluctance to any Bond films, I finally gave in and watched my first - Goldfinger - about 15 years ago.   I've re-watched it every year since then.  What a great movie!  😎

The Sean Connery bond movies are the best and I refuse to watch any others. Interestingly a less well know British star today,  Stanley Baker - who is brilliant - was offered the Bond role and turned it down as he was moving more into production. He suggested the relatively unknown actor, Sean Connery and the rest is history. They are of course first and foremost, dry comedies and this vain Jean DuJardin's 0SS 117 French spy spoofs are well-worth checking out.

Being the half-ass movie buff that I am....     I've NEVER heard that story and I will look into those French spy spoofs, thanks and Merry Christmas!
