I was 14 years old on Wednesday at 6:30pm January 12, 1966 when ABC-TV debuted "Batman". I was heavy in to reading and collecting Batman comic books at that time and I waited with anticipation of the show come on my TV. When it did, seeing Batman and Robin come down those Bat-Poles to the Batcave, run to the car, get in and it went like this: Robin saying, "Atomic batteries to power, turbines to speed", and then Batman affirming, "Ready to move out", and the car bolting from the cave with that fire blowing out the back was such a thril. Up the ramp of the Batcave, out of the hidden entrance in the mountain with the theme song "NA, NA, NA, NA" playing. As that 14 year old, it remains still today one of my fondest childhood memories.

@georgeschire I was 20 in 1966 and enjoyed the campy Batman series, but I was absolutely fascinated with the Batmobile. Not knowing its origins (the '55 Lincoln Futura), I just thought that it was such an incredible design.

I too, was (at first) disappointed with the "campy" way the show was presented. But I soon warmed up to it when I realized that kids and adults could enjoy the show together. The reruns today are even funnier to watch. As for the Batmobile, it will forever have a place in my heart as one of the coolest cars ever.
One day about 25 years ago when I was still working and coming back from lunch, the Batmobile drove right down the street in front of my bank. Not the original of course, it was one of the duplicates in town for a car show. When I saw it, I heard the Batman theme song in my mind immediately. When a car car can do that, it's an awesome car.
