Growing up, it was a rare sight to see a Mercedes and, frankly, the sedans were rather frumpish and underpowered compared to their American counterparts. In the '70s, I moved to a Manhattan bedroom community in New Jersey to be close to graduate school, and suddenly I was flooded with sightings of the long, low and lean (well 2 tons of automobile ain't exactly 'lean') 300SEL sedans. It looked like a Germanic Invasion! Probably for the American market, Mercedes took the 6.3 liter fuel injected V8 out of their 600 series Pullmans and turned the normally 3.0 liter 6 powered sedan into a 300HP muscle car with unheard of performance with 0-6.2 in 6.6 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.2 seconds. Not bad for 2 tons of iron with every luxury amenities on board.

Fabulous images.
@chris CMC did a fabulously detailed (and fabulously expensive) Pullman and Landaulet.
@rich-sufficool Yes, they did. I'm aware of those too.
Beautiful model & I love the color combo. We had family friends that had this generation S-Class in the early '08s...funny, they also lived in NJ.
At one point, I had 3 of the generations of MB's S-Class models & had planned to get this one as well. Ended up selling those, but couldn't sell the excellent racing version by Minichamps. Campaigned by AMG, well before AMG became part of MB.
A fine replica in all the styles shown here. It would be a remarkable model to have out on display, that is for sure !
and when the 6.3 wasn't mean enough, along comes the 6.9.
@gavin That AMG was on my 'must have' list for a long time and then it got buried down the list forr other 'must haves'.

@rich-sufficool...that happens to me all the time!
This surprises me a bit....
