The 'Half Ton' isn't its load capacity but rather its curb weight! To be able to maximize its performance, this BMW 3/15 PS DA-1  "Dixi" has the most minimalist chassis imaginable.

It allows the 15 HP 747cc 4 cylinder engine to propel the truck to a respectable 47 mph. Virtually identical to Britain's Austin 7, it was the first automobile built by the newly formed Bavarian Motor Works ( formerly Automobilwerk Eisenach or AWE)  . BMW, which had provided aircraft engines for the German Airforce was now banned from such enterprise, it segued into motorcycles and in 1927 obtained a license from Austin to produce this all purpose platform. The 'DA-1' or Deutsche Ausfehrung badging designated the vehicle as a German made Austin 7. This AUTOart model is truck bodied rather than the standard roadster.

You hooked me  with your title, Rich.  I thought, "What half-ton BMW truck?"    🤔

I was unaware of the history behind this "Austin-BMW"  nor the fact that it was their first vehicle.  It's a cool looking little truck that - now that you mention it - does look like an Austin.

My only Austin is Peter Brock's childhood racer which, as I just learned, would be more-or-less interchangeable with your BMW, pretty cool.  😎   Or: "Das ist ziemlich cool!"

That Austin 7 was a versatile beast back in 1927. Matchbox produced a set in about 1/43 scale showing three variations, including the BMW Dixie. Interesting history. Thanks Rich.

Matchbox Models of Yesteryear YS65, issued about 1990.
