Conceived a tribute as well as a successor to the V8 powered 507 2-seat roadster of the late '50s. The iconic nature of the 507 may be just due to its rarity with only 252 units produced. The car was to sell like hot cakes to the American market but turned out to be way too expensive and was a huge loser financially for BMW. Flash forward to 1997 with the debut of the Z07 concept car which was to become a flagship V8 GT roadster successor to the 507. I was a beautifully designed high powered luxury roadster and it turned a lot of heads. It featured an optional 'double bubble' roof as a coupe also.
When BMW produced the production version of this concept, now the Z8, there would be no coupe, just the roadster. The production Z8 used the 395 HP 4.9 liter S62 V8 with a 6 speed manual. All Z8s came with a color matching removable hardtop. 5703 Z8s were built with 2543 built for the North American market.
I always really liked the 507, so was thrilled when BMW released the Z07 Concept. The production Z8 is still one of my favorite designs. The only think I don't love is the center mounted gauges, but everything else, including the awesome S62 V8 (from the E39 M5).
Looks like your model is by Kyosho...mine is a Dealer Edition, also by Kyosho. I feel like just about every manufacturer made one. I think AutoArt's wheels are closest to the real thing.
Nice history & pics guys! Very cool.... 😎 😎
@gavin The Revell 507 came in two forms with the more upscale one having leather upholstery which I have. I didn't even know there were two forms when I bought it.
@gavin The Norev definitely looks more refined. It should as the Revell is really old. The problem lies with it being a curbside and this is one model I'd prefer to have opening panels.
