Weighing only 1000 lbs, and designed to run in the 1100 cc class with similarly displaced SOHC Coventry Climax 4 cylinder, it was quite the winning car over the second half of the 1950s. Even against the big boys at the 1956 Le Mans one of the three (pictured) came in 7th overall. Other engines were also used. Most common was the 1172 Ford 4 in sport and for this model, the 1500 cc Coventry Climax.
With the 1500cc engine, Chapman made this 11 a single seater with a bubble top. In this configuration, Stirling Moss hit a lap speed of 142 mph at Monza.

Ol' Colin was a wizard! This particular single-seat rendition looks like land speed racer more than a Monza machine - Fantastic car and photos!
