Where do I begin?
- Great collection; I hope Lloyds of London has it insured.
- Do you hire out? I have walls of stuff you can inventory... you apparently have a knack for it.
- Obviously a racer/speed themed collection. Congrats on sticking to your guns....and NOT veering off (to collect "everything" ) like so many of us do. 🙄 😒Â
- Do you have other scale collections: 1/43, 1/64, 1/16?
-Very cool, thanks! 😎 😎Â
@chris I stuck with 1/18 scale for the better overall detail, I have a total of 7 1/24 scale diecast, three pickup trucks two David Pearson stock cars and a Buick Grand National that was advertised as a 1/18 scale but ended up being 1/24 scale. I have no 1/64 or 1/43 scale.Â
I thought posting my inventory list someone might see something that grabs their attention and they would have a little information on who manufactured it maybe making something a little easier to find.Â
It is always fun to see what others have collected and to know how much is on display and how much is packed away due to lack of space.Â
I would say those who might like Formula One be careful about collecting the Exoto Williams FW14B cars, due to the age of them the plastic used to make the suspension system on them the plastic has become brittle and of the three Exoto Williams FW14B cars I have only one is undamaged, Two of them the rear suspension is broken on them. Sadly they are unrepairable because there are no parts available and gluing the suspension pieces does not work due to the load bearing and the tiny surface the glue has available to make contact with.Â
Overall I have been lucky of the 230 1/18 scale diecast I have only four have damage, two Exoto Williams FW14B cars one in race livery and one test car unpainted, one Exoto Jaguar Prototype that I was able to repair some of the damage but this one still displays well and the last one was my Road Kings IVECO cabover Ferrari themed truck that had several pieces broken off, I was able to glue most of the pieces back together but it is missing one clearance light and a small piece of the sunshade. Lucky for me the missing parts are on the upper right corner of the cab and the truck is displayed showing the left side so you don't see the missing clearance light and small missing part of the sunshade.Â
Outside of that the only other issue is a little paint rash on a few that unless you handle the car you don't noticed it while is it displayed in a case.Â
I hope others will post a list of their collections, it is interesting to see what others have collected. I have seen many diecast on here that I myself do not collect but they are still interesting to see them and admire them.
I did do two lists of my collection one with retail/current pricing and one strictly market price when I made the list and looked for good examples. Some of the retail pricing the manufacture was out of their mind, Exoto being the biggest dreamer but some cars due to being out of production and hard to find do get some high prices when sold.Â
Mine came out like this and I put together the list just to see what the collection would have cost at full retail/current pricing and a second list strictly market price when I made the list. You will be surprised at how much you have spent over the years on a large collection at market price.Â
My Collection:Â
Retail/Current Price: $137,200 coming out to an average price per diecast $596.52Â
Today Market Price: $70,130 coming out to an average price per diecast $304.91
The Exoto, CMC and the now hard to find other manufacture cars drive up the average price for the Today's Market Price. The MNTrailers increased the market price as well. Of the cars the Exoto Formula One Ferrari's and Williams were some of the most expensive cars in my collection and all of the CMC are on the expensive side once they go out of production. The CMC Porsche 901 is an example of demanding a high price and to find one without paint rash or another issue drives the price even higher for that car.Â
and gluing the suspension pieces does not work due to the load bearing and the tiny surface the glue has available to make contact with.Â
- The only way to truly fix these issues is to drill tiny holes in both pieces (essentially making pipes out of them )Â then insert tiny metal rods, and then glue them all up.
- You're lucky, I didn't hear the phrase "diecast cancer"Â anywhere, only "paint rash."
- Again, you're to be commended for your inventory & bookkeeping prowess. Few collectors posses such meticulous documentation of their collections.
- "100 years ago,"  I created spreadsheets/inventory accountability for my N-scale train collection....after a few years I gave up! 🙄 😯Â
Such organization. I'm impressed.
Bob; just imagine how many printers you would wear out if you documented your collection!! Then there's the manhours involved....yikes! LOL.
@jack-dodds At my age it ain't gonna happen. On top of the car collection I also have an N scale train collection
Folks, I'm sure most of us have seen this TV presentation of Bob Jackman's collection. Wow! This was originally aired 14 years ago! Time flies.
@marty-johnson Ah yes, I remember that video....and the key phrase is "understanding wife."  She's one in 2 million, perhaps 2.5 million.
I am truly blessed to have a wife who likes my hobby as I like her miniatures.
