When ERTL started making more upscale models like their P-100 and later, Authentics lineup, I bought their first 1965 convertible Mustang in Rangoon Red and I was impressed. Later, the came out with their 2+2 Fastback and from what I could see on the one pic I saw was that it was badged as K-Code with the Hi-Po 271 hp 289. What I loved about that option was the dual exhausts that exited the rear fascia about where the backup lights are on the standard models. To my dismay, the model still had the stock single exhaust and the engine was still stock. The interior revealed an automatic trans shifter, but under the dash was... a clutch pedal! The bulk of the model is really well done and included the fold down rear seat, seat belts and a lot of the bells and whistles I had hoped for. I would have liked it to have 3-D badged and the 'Ford' script rather than tampos, but, overall, the fit and finish was superb. I just couldn't get over the glaring inaccuracies.

Despite the inaccuracies, I've always considered it to be the best 1:18 Mustang model. I used that Mustang model for a variety of modification projects. The body served as the basis for the Gas Ronda '66 Holman-Moody longnose funny car, the chassis on the Econoline pickup truck, and the engine, intended to be a 331 CID engine (Shhhh) was placed in the medium-duty Ford Transporter. Â
@rich-sufficool - Thank you, sir! Â
@marty-johnson I would have usually responded to you like any senior NCO with "Don't call me sir! I work for a living!". But I'm retired now so.... "You're welcome!". LOL
