This naked CMC 1931 Mercedes-Benz SSKL is the Mille Miglia winner (#87) driven by Rudolf Caracciola. Ferdinand Porsche's career began as a driver/mechanic to the Archduke and Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (fortunately well before the assassination) and prior to WWl became the chief designer for the Austro-Daimler Autoworks of which I have two models, the Prinz Heinrich and the Maja Tourer, that were commissioned by his grandson. Prior to that, his first car, the Lohner-Porsche was powered by two electric motors. Hampered by both the batteries' weight and short life, he built a hybrid that had a gasoline engine to charge the batteries. After the war, Daimler merged with Benz and Porsche went to work for various divisions including Wanderer and Steyr. The SSKL saga began with his first design, the model S in 1927 and by 1931 it evolved into the SSKL (sport;supercharged; lightweight).
I have a few models of this iconic automobile but esthetically, I love CMC's unpainted edition which really loves the light and shows off CMC's mixed-media prowess.
