In 1970, f you weren't a high ranking CCP elite or PLA bemedaled general, you didn't get one of the few V8 powered, armored FAW 7000 series limos to parade in. So when Cambodia's Prince Norodom Sihanouk came for a state visit, he got to parade in this Shanghai Autoworks (now SAIC) SH 761 parade car. It was built on the much smaller SH760 sedan, and was powered by a decade old 90 hp 2.2 liter inline 6. For maximum visibility (and vulnerability) the rear seat raises hydraulically with just a spindly chrome handle bar on each side to keep the dignitary from falling off. These hand built cars were cheap on the tech. Even the dash components were from the older SH760. But the appointments were rather luxurious with sumptuous leather and lots of wood trim on the interior.

Note: I used Sihanouk as an example just because when I was in SEA, he was a real thorn in side of the US and was #1 on the CIA's "We'd love to" hit list. Just for the heck of it, I looked to see if there actually was a pic of him in the SH761. There is a great pic owned by Alamay so I couldn't copy it. If you're interested, it's here:

Yes, have seen this one before... and thanks to you I know what it is.  Initially, I thought this was the 1/19 scale, but you corrected me and said that was another model. I still laugh when I see that manual trans.  All this "luxury"  but no automatic? 🙄 🙄

Looks like a nice model and something different. Do you know who made the model?

@ed-davis I don't remember these being a vendor. It's one of those models commissioned by SAIC for their museum store .

This one looks very cool. Lots of details and certainly one not seen very often. Too bad the real one didn't have the DB-5 Bond ejector seat for the backseat that could be remotely controlled !

When looking at the front of the car, is anyone else reminded of a '64 Chevy?

Honestly, no...  but I can see why you'd say that.

You'll laugh at this... but when I see "that face"   I think of an early 1960's International Scout (w/only 2 headlights ) or kind-of-sort-of a 1960 Pontiac (which also has a bump-out grill ).

🙄 😮 🙄

The rear is a Pontiac Tempest w/Nova taillights. LoL 😀
