Just a follow up on the emblem letters on the ACME ramp trucks.

Photo-etch is wonderfully detailed and "3-D" yet a drawback is that it can be extremely delicate. Some manufacturers have done a clear overcoat which can protect the PH, but can take away from the 3D quality and may be difficult to do properly over the whole model. Some clear overcoats can apparently dull the bright "chrome" look on an emblem or trim piece, so that can be an issue sometimes.

It has been suggested that a small drop of clear acrylic or the original "Future" floor wax (which was pure acrylic I believe), applied over the PH piece will self-level and make a clear smooth coating over the piece when it dries and protect it. This can work and I have tried it a couple times, but it's a bit nerve-wracking unless you do it a number of times, so many times I just leave the delicate PH alone .......although I should probably practice and get good at it !

I've tried at least a dozen times to watch and nothing plays.

@100ford2003   Hmmm....  no problems here. I simply hit the arrow without issue.  Hmmmm....

@mikedetorrice  Yep, that's  how to fix this issue.  Some guys use very diluted Elmer's glue (white glue that dries clear).  Clear nail polish or "clear coat" can also be used. Like you said Mike, P-E scrpits/detail are great but one MUST exercise caution. I wish ALL manufactures would simply "overcoat" (..like HW61).  IMO, the detail loss is out weighed by the lasting benefit.

@john3976 Nice vids John but I'd have to fix those scripts. "Complete removal" would keep me up nights! LOL

Q: Your replicas are obviously well protected, So.... are you guilty of inadvertently dislodging those missing letters or were they missing because ACME goofed?

still not working for me on my phone. Click on arrow and the bar/graph disappears and there's nothing. Weird 'stuff' happens on my phone.

Why do some posted pics appear immediately while some have to be clicked on to view?

It's very tiring to have to keep going back and forth with issues.

I've kept in touch with DIO and he says he no longer posts due to issues he has.

Oh well..... 😳

@chris, The letters were there when the trucks were received, as I said in an earlier post I lightly wiped them with a microfiber towel and I think the letters might have caught on the microfiber and that is how they came off.

When removing the letters from the Ford and the Dodge that were both missing one letter, on the Ford the letters came off very easy while the remaining letters on the dodge were far harder to remove taking some effort to get them off.

This leads me to believe that the adhesive they use on the back of the letters either was not good on some of the letters or had not fully cured. Knowing how long it takes to get these diecast from china to the states there is clearly enough time for the adhesive to cure so I think that some of the letters just don't get a good coating of adhesive on them and they are easy to accidentally knock them off when wiping them down.

This is just something I thought those with the ramp trucks might want to be aware of so they know to be extra careful around the letters on the hoods.
