I'm on the fence about THIS one...
I normally only collect hard tops,
or top UP convertibles, but the
red & white 1:18 1959 Dodge convertible
is a real beauty!
For some reason, the hardtop colors aren't
as bright as the convertibles are.
I don't know....
Jack, you are correct. The "fancier" paint jobs usually go to the top down 'verts. For..........
....cost cutting purposes, the top-ups & hardtops receive "one color" paint jobs; of course this is NOT always true but it does happen.
What you can do Jack (I have done this) is buy the top down red/white 1959 Dodge. Then, when avaliable, purchase the top up version. Then, remove the boot on the red/white one and install the top up.
Now...put the boot on the second Dodge (repaint with acrylic if necessary) then sell it on eBay as a "one-off" job.
You'll get ALL your money back + the car you really want.
Problem solved!

Chris, I'm NOT that skilled at making changes to diecast
Cars! Not like you are; at best, I'm
confident about using touch up paint, or paint
fixer to smooth out scratches, but when it comes
to what you have suggested, I'd be afraid to even
try it.
I did try something like that just once:
The result was two cars damaged beyond repair.
I have a very few convertibles in my collection.
These are cars that were ONLY available as convertibles.
I'm out of space- this Dodge that I've wanted so badly
is the final car for me.
ALL the companies that made the cars I love best,
which is from 1886 to 1953 - are out of business.
Money is a consideration, as well.
I can't afford to buy two or three of the same exact
car to experiment with.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed
how Sunstar uses their brightest, most cheerful
colors on their convertibles, and darker colors
(Not always, but more often than NOT.) on hardtops
and top UP versions of the same car.
The area where the 1959 Dodge will be displayed
is mostly filled with DARK cars.
My mom will sometimes tell me when she visits
that I wear dark clothes, I buy mostly dark cars,
and like it best when it's dark out-which I do.
But sometimes, you gotta let some brightness
in.
Chris - I like your thinking and have done similar in the past !!!
