This 1938 Buick 46C Special Convertible was the first to be 'muscled' a bit when they put the straight 8 from the larger Roadmaster into it. The 247 cid 8 only put out 107 HP, but Buick called it the "Century" because they figured it might just hit 100 mph. An option that year was a 4 speed semi-automatic that may have been a bit too 'slushy' as many were later swapped out for a 3 speed manual. The interior as well as the rumble seat and door card were all leather and the dash was done in real walnut. The canvas top and the tonneau cover had interior color piping on them (missing on this model). The car ran 16" rims. It was quite the sexy chick magnet in 1938.
This Signature model replicates the car with most options including the lower set of adjustable driving lights. The only accessories I see missing are the detachable flash light in the steering column and an electric fan off the lower dash blowing on the driver. The glaring parts are the misspelling of Special as 'Speciui", Oil Cushioned Valve-In-Head as 'Oil Cushonco Yalve-In-Hcad'. The QQ plates are also a bit screwed up.
....yes, agree to all that Rich - and - it's slammed! 😎 😎 😎 This thing always set a bit too low. Years ago, someone on this Forum, adjusted the height "up" and this Buick looked so much better. Nice pics though!
A fine look at this Buick/Signature beauty in a beautiful white color. I am happy to also have this Signature 1/18, but in a gleaming black hue.
@michaeldetorrice Mike, I too have the black one and love it. I have always wished for more mid to late thirties models of American cars. I guess, like 1/1 cars, interest in these years is past it's prime in favor of newer cars.
It is a great-looking car and replica from Signature and I too wish it was released in more colors, as it looks good in all the one's it was offered in. There is no shortage of wonderful automotive subjects to use !
