You did put new life into Forum 18
That in it's self deserves a THANK YOU
THANK YOU
I was educated on these cars at a young age, mostly by models my Dad would buy and tell me about, still some of my favorites today. I do watch some of the new F1 races, Indy a lot. Never got into Nascar but back when there were a lot of American manufactures and big differences in cars it seemed a lot more interesting. Indy has turned more into spec racing too it seems, sad. Hey I'm here everyday anyways and I have some time right now, taking some time off to help my Mom who recently had some surgery and a stroke. So you are very welcome, I learn new stuff here all the time too. My goal with this is to get other people back to posting more.
Josh sez ... "My goal with this is to get other people back to posting more" .... I so agree W / him
I have some opinions why posting here is sparse. WARNING: This is gonna hurt a bit.
Some think the diecast industry is dying. I'm not seeing that. The hobby isn't dying; The Zone is dying.
To be blunt, this website is archaic, old, and outdated. The Zone is a Model A trying to drive on a modern freeway. It can't keep up. Actually, I'm being kind. It's more like a horse and buggy with a whip. I think The Zone would be better served moving the entire platform to a Facebook Group Page. And yes, I know some do not FB but as the saying goes, "You can please some of the people all the time...." You know the rest.
And in its archaic, decrepit state, few young people are interested in coming here to post as they are bored to death. They'd rather spend their time on FB diecast groups where the audiences are enormous, diverse from all over the world, and all kinds of diecast cars are discussed. Photos are far easier to post, sizing and all of the attendant complexities required to post on The Zone are unnecessary on FB.
I don't blame the younger group that venture here and leave. I spend most of my diecast time on FB as it is imminently more enjoyable. And that's only because the FB platform is far more user-friendly. And it should too because it's modern. Consequently, there's a lot of individual participation from very diverse, vibrant, and robust memberships.
If the Zone moved to FB, they still could get the added advantage of advertising there as not only could they sell to the audience from The Zone but they would have exposure to thousands of collectors from all over the world. Holding on to this marketing dinosaur is costing Legacy big-time sales.
Please accept my apologies. As I warned, "...to be blunt."
Marlowe I've been here over 19 years - It's still the same ....
I don't think there's any interest in updating
If there is interest at the top levels ... that interest is not being conveyed down to the various Forums
I recognize & respect your observations
No FB or AMAZON for me ... To set in my ways ... Don't want to try new platforms
I know I may be missing out
Maybe one day
Maybe one day ... I'll crawl out from under my rock and get on board with the newer technology
I understand, my wife and daughters are all on
FB and I make an effort to avoid it and most other social groups like this. The things that are said, the hate and meanness that comes so easy to people when not confronted by an actual person seems to be getting worse to me. Here you must use self control or face the fact that what you post may be removed. I actually come here every day to check new releases, and I look at the forums for other peoples pictures just for fun. I am amazed at the responses from the 1/24 scale collectors, diehard fans where there is not a lot happening as far as new releases. 1/18 is still an active scale, although changing with more resin releases now, but post are dwarfed compared to the 1/24 posters. It is a new age, changing all the time, here is a safe place to me, I plan to keep posting here.
Ha! I'm betting you were pulled away from your...
... flip-phone to your smartphone kicking and screaming, 'eh? LOL!
Change is hard for most of us. It's human nature and we tend to stay with the familiar status quo.
HA ... I threw a temper tantrum when they took away my Motorola Flip !!!!!
That was the best cell I ever had .... ever !!!!! :))
This is my safe place as well ..... and
I do not plan to go any where ....
Except
In 3 years ... I'll B moving to TENN
T P just shuddered in his breaches when I said that ... LOL
LOL
I don't Facebook and have no plans to sign up. My wife is on Facebook and likes it because a lot of the family and our kids use Facebook.
For me, I'm not interested in clicking on Facebook and reading post after post of "stuff" or, in most cases, "junk". I'm a social guy, but social media is a turn-off for me.
If the Zone decides to switch over to FB, I won't be joining. I'll stay here on the Forum as long as this "dinosaur" continues to plod along. If the future is FB, we had a great run.
