This 245 HP 4.5 liter V12 1937 Delahaye Type 145 had some successes on the track against the Mercedes-Benz W154. Known as the "Million Franc Car". The prize was given by the Automobile Club of France to any French car that could beat both the Germans and record speed holder, Italy at the French Autodrome de Montlheri.
Now known as the 37/46 Delahaye type145 V12 Coupe was the creation of coach builder Henri Chapron who bought the retired race car and built an enclosed body and interior conversion to a two seat passenger car with dazzling performance. Like his contemporaries like Figoni et Falasci, he was a proponent of the 'tear drop' school of aerodynamic design but not F&F's flamboyant styling cues making this coupe a relative "sleeper" on the road. Both the V12 race car and the Chapron coupe exist today gracing the Peter Mullin Museum of French classics. The model is by Minichamps. (I have a 1/43 model of the race car but I can't find the pics.)
Absolutely gorgeous styling!
I have a 1/43 model of the race car, but I can't find the pics.
Why not try to find the model? LoL 😬 😬 I know, I know... trying to locate pics is hard enough! 😏 That's one gorgeous silver coupe; the French sure love their curves.
