Hi. I'm new to collecting diecast, been into model RRing for many years.

I saw the earlier post regarding value guides, and agree, the become outdated quickly. Is there, though, and books out there that would show listings of what is out there? Any that give comparisons of brands? Any magazines?

Yes, I'm sure these are common questions, and before any one says "Do a search", I'm about to start Smile But figured it would not hurt to ask.

Interests are the lost auto mfrs of the late 40s and early 50s (Hudson, Studebaker, Packard, etc..) as well as lost mfrs, such as Cord, Duesenberg, Auburn etc..

Thanks all

Hi Jim and welcome ! A few years back there were several diecast scale model car magazines out there, like "DiecastX" and "The Car Room" but I believe all or most are no longer published. There may be some on-line presence for some diecast car model publications, but I am not familiar with these right now.

Hudsons, Studebakers, Packards, and Kaisers, as well as Cord, Duesenberg and Auburn are all represented in 1/18th scale and I happily have a number of these. Here's a partial list that may be helpful :

1952-53 Hudsons have been done beautifully by Highway 61 and further releases may come from manufacturers leasing the tooling.

1937, 1950, 1951, 1953, 1957, 1958, 1963 Studebakers have been done by various manufacturers and I really like all of these.

Packards from the late 1920's-early 1930's, as well as 1938, 1941 and 1955 Packards have been done really nicely by several companies.

1953 Kaisers have been done by Highway 61 and 1951 Henry J's have been done by SunStar. All are excellent and highly regarded.

The 1936 Cord has been done by Ertl and Signature Models. I have the Ertl one and it's excellent.

Duesenberg has been done in 1930's SJ form by a couple of manufacturers.

Auburn has been done by Ertl and is a fantastic model depicting the classic boat-tail speedster.

Jim

you can find several good price guides on Amazon, just type in toy car collectors guide. While they won’t give you a present day price guide some do give the original selling prices. They also have several hundred pages of models by all the major manufacturers.

Thanks for info regarding the models, Mike and Larry, thanks for the heads up regarding books. Just checked Amazon, found a second edition of the Toy Car Collectors Guide listed for 'only' $907.99. LOL Checked ebay, a few of both 1st and 2nd editions at MUCH more reasonable prices. Is there a big difference in listings between the 1st and 2nd editions?

Have spent most of the morning clearing a area for displaying the models, and find I have a lot less space than I had though. Not enough for all the models I hope to acquire.

So I'm going to look at 1/43, though I will buy at least one Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg model in 1/18, and they will sit in pride of place. My Grandfather was a dealer for those 3 brands.

Thanks again.
