I'll bite, the number 97 Cobra was the wrecked chassis they designed and built the first Cobra Daytona Coupe around.

@john3976 Right you are. Skip Hudson wrecked the car at Daytona in 1963 - interestingly he completed enough laps to get listed as finishing the race - the car was shipped back to California and just laying around the shop when Pete Brock got permission from Shelby to build the coupe. The coupe shown in the picture is a custom build of mine of the car as it appeared at its first race back at Daytona in 1964
