This 1973 Porsche 911(964) Carrera RS 2.7 was a homologation car that allowed it to race in FIA events. It's lightweight body and ducktail spoiler, along with its 207 HP 2.7 liter engine made it the fastest of all Porsches back in the day. What piqued my interest was the large decal on the right rear window. Blowing it up, it read "Marken Weldt Meister" which, in my dim recognition of German, might mean "Master of the World" evidently for the 1969, '70 and '71 seasons.
I thought perhaps it was a Porsche "Supercup" winner, but the annual event didn't start until 1970. Collector and enthusiast, Jorge Carnicero saw the same decal and researched the translation and meaning to "Manufacturers World Champion" and the decal was a tribute to the RS 2.7 predecessor, the Porsche 2.5 S. Unfortunately, now realizing the significance of the "S" car he had recently sold, he now realized what a mistake it was to let if go. It took 50 years and quite a few bucks, but Carneseco now has a new 911 GT3 with Touring Package which he had this embossed on the center console:
This successor "RS" or "Racing Sport" had a planned production run of 500 for homologation, but wound up selling 1580. Its performance is still remarkable 50 years later.
That's a fascinating detail & props to AutoArt for including it that decal. My Minichamps version doesn't have it. Porsche won the Manufacturers World Championship in those years...1969 with the 908/02 & /03, 1970 with 917 & 1971 with the 917/10 & /30.
Cool to see yours without the common side stripes & Carrera call-out.
One quick edit...this is not a 964 generation 911. The 964 came out in 1989 with the 911 Carrera 4...the first AWD 911.
Great cars & info guys.... (not being a Porsche fan ) Q: Why the slightly different rims on the red 911? To quickly differentiate between the "big & little" wheels? 🤨 🤔
Ahhhh! Since Porsche 911s are the game for the day, can I come out and play too?
This is a 1:8 scale Pocher Porsche 993. It was the culmination of a little fun two-person contest about who could build the best model car. Some of the custom features were chromed wheels, tinted glass, an upholstered interior, real glass mirrors, a detailed engine kit, and, my personal favorite, working headlamps and taillamps. I also designed a "seat" to attach the springloaded brake pedal that, when pressed, would activate the stop lamps. Oh, it also ushered in several eBay businesses that financially exploited some of the custom features of the car. The photo with my hand in the car demonstrates how the brake lamps operate. Obviously, the first photo set is the standard Pocher model built and used in their advertising. For this purpose, it serves as the "BEFORE" version prior to my modifications.
I am impressed with your work Marty. I am also envious of the number of large scale models in your collection and your building skills. Thanks for sharing.
I remember that contest and your Devil-driven tenacity to win at all costs; it's obvious you were obsessed (or possessed )! Who in their right mind would dare "butcher" a Porcher kit? Only a mad man! 😀 😉
@marty-johnson That was incredibly ambitious of you to choose black when you can see every imperfection from satellite photos! Beautiful build.
Yeah, the "964" is incorrect. I was writing while researching when I discovered the error.... and I forgot to take it out. I never proof read the post.

@chris...this is one area that I think Minichamps did better. On both the '70s RS & the '80s Carreras, their wheels have a little more deep dish to them. To my eyes, the Minichamps wheels look better (& why I have their versions of both, vs the AutoArts). On the both, the rears should also be wider.
I'm a huge fan of the Porsche marque & the 911, & all its derivatives, in particular. It is the most represented marque in my collection, by almost double over 2nd place (Ferrari).
I had planned on posting some pics, but Photobucket is having some issues today.
@gavin I hope you have backups for your PhotoBucket pics. I lost everything when suddenly I could not access my account and PB couldn't help at all, including moving everything to a new account. After a couple of months, I asked for a refund and had to just walk away while they deleted everything and never got an answer as to why. Thankfully, we don't need a hosting site anymore
Thanks Rich...I have been backing up my pics the last 5-ish years. Its partly why I've been re-shooting all my models.
