The Manta Ray concept was the revamped 1965 Mako Shark ll that changed the louvered fastback with a 'flying buttress' rear roofline with a vertical rear window, added a front spoiler and redesigned the side pipes. Both heralded the 1968 C3 production bodied design.

It's a beautifully done concept AND model. That interior & dash are incredibly modern looking. I was always surprised this never ended up in a James Bond  film.  It's easy to imagine a water-chase scene whereas this suddenly becomes air-tight as it slices through the water like a pointed submarine....or a shark.

Gimmie a screenplay; I'll quickly write in a chase sequence!  😏 😏 😏

As always, great pics Rich.

What a great-looking car and AutoArt model ! The color on this one is sensational and it's got some excellent details on it, too. Overall,  an extremely nice one and what a knockout on display !

Rich, thanks for explaining the difference between the Mako Shark II and the Manta Ray. I remember seeing the Mako Shark II with the louvered rear window at the Chicago Auto Show. I built the MPC kit and used waaaaaaaay too much metallic blue paint.

In the natural world, Stingrays, Manta Rays, and Sharks are very closely related and come from the same evolutionary tree.  It only makes sense that Corvette would, for consistency, create models of those fish.
