New Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona 24 Hours
The new Ferrari 365GTB/4 that Paul Newman, Milt Minter and Elliott Forbes-Robinson (EFR)raced in the 1977 Daytona 24 Hours is out and available. I was really disappointed that the restored version Kyosho made back in 2003 was so different from the way the car was raced in '77 at Daytona. Well Kyosho has fixed all that with their new release. And it's beautiful, to boot ! It will hopefully be reviewed in the Winter Edition of DCX. Here is a shot of the "as raced" version side-by-side with the earlier restored version. NICE !

It actually is Marlowe.
The one with all of the livery is the "before" and the one without most of the livery is the "after". Maybe I don't understand the vintage mindset, but I don't know why someone would restore the car and leave most of the livery off along with no spoiler and the fonts on the numbers wrong, etc. (and there's a lot of etc. !)

Well, some of it I understand.............
If you are restoring a car you might not want to carry around all of that 'advertising' or even worse, have to pay for putting it on the car. In that sense I can understand why the restorer of the actual car might leave the car's livery incomplete, but Kyosho really had no excuse.
That said, for the restorer to get the fonts on the numerals wrong is just silly. The sad fact is that there are so many 'restored' cars out there that get details wrong when there does not appear to be any reason for it.
I had actually considered doing a decal sheet for this car but most of the missing livery is white and without an ALPS type printer it is very hard to be successful.
It is nice to see a model of the 'real' car at last but a little frightening to see it at three times the cost of the other eight that I own.
I guess the question now is what am I going to do with the model of the 'restored' one?

Here's a picture I took of the "restored car" a few years ago at Monterey
You can see that the "restored" model follows the actual restored car pretty faithfully. This might be a "worst example" of the restorer getting the livery and car wrong..... no spoiler, plexiglass driver's side window and a lot of livery errors. They even missed the roundel on the hood.
Maybe the owner has some explanation. It would be interesting to hear.

What is Behine me does not matter!
Will they be doing a European version of the 365 GTB Daytona with the outragious European European headlights
that went totaly accross the front end with the yellow bulbs and the rear turn signals in amber. it would look great in in the orginal colors Rosa Red & fly yellow and when the hood is opened a copy of the tool rap inside?
Do any of you remember the actor who passed away his famious line was he grabed the review mirror and said in an italian voive what is behine me does not matter.
I think Petter Brock payed the driver in the Cobra Great
movie. I must fime and rent it fent it again!

History matters ever little detail!
I totaly agree. some one is cutting cost in doing these not knowing that some collectors of diecast models may be in the Ferrari club and know the history of the orginal car.

The Gumball Rally
Robert, You're thinking of the late, great, Raul Julia. I loved that movie! That movie is what caused me to fall in love with the Ferrari Daytona Spyder and the 18th scale Solido version was my own "gateway drug" into collecting. I bought the dvd just so I could hear that V12 sing through the "canyons" of Manhattan(NYC Cop: "It's going to be a nice day").
I wish somebody would create a decent 18th scale version of it. All the "Elite" versions are of the coupes. I've got the Kyosho in black, but the Hot Wheels Spyder version is not so great.
