@chris

Yep; I'd have answered Steve if you hadn't, so much earlier than I could have. Before one and two piece fancy wheels, the factory stock wheel was plain, usually black or body color in the fifties and into the sixties except for the hub grease car and the lug nuts. Then either a small hub cap or full wheel cover, fit over them.

NICE 'Stangs!

@perrone1 Thanks for the confirmation....       A side note (you may know ):

I've ALWAYS loved color-keyed rims, especially on 1950's cars; they're just cool - with or without hubcaps or wheelcovers, right?    😉 😉

About ten years ago, I read that the MAIN reason for color-keyed rims was to prevent theft.

Color matching rims to the car's paint was perceived as a deterrent....  juvenile Johnny-bag-of-donuts  was less apt to steal your blue rims to put on his yellow car and if he did do that, the Police could spot him ten blocks away.  😉 😉

I guess it was some-what successful and prevented "casual wheel theft."       🙄 🤔 🙄 🤔

Excellent point about the body colored rims - I read that too on a couple sites! You Da MAN!  Smile

@chris I found the 57 at a bottle show. It did not have the box but did have the styrofoam cradle and was in mint condition. I paid $230.00 for it.

@bob-jackman Yeah, that's a great price, congrats!      I passed on mine @ $265....   as I noted, I regret it now.    😞      BTW: I've never seen the Tropical Turquoise version.   Have you?    🤔 🤨

@100ford2003 Those black rims are all factory - that's how Ford painted them.      I've seen some 1964 - '66 Mustangs with factory color-keyed rims, but most were painted black.    The spinner wheelcovers fit right on.  😉

Thanks Chris, I didn’t know that the hubcaps were removeable.

I have the Hot Wheels Corvette Twin Mill that lights up everything including sequential taillamps. The engines fire up with sound one at a time and the top opens electronically also.
