I don't know if my 641/2 Mustang would be considered a muscle car

But it was the first of the "pony cars" and I guess could be
the
first of the muscle cars, well maybe ?? anyhow it was fast for
back then and it had a wonderful T10 as it was called , 4 Speed
and I loved the floor shift lever with the "T" handle for
reverse
and it seemed a very good smooth shift. Loved it.

Well, for sure, the best shifting cars always had a Hurst Shifter!

My '71 Mach 1 had a T-Shift handle and my buddy had the "Pistol Grip" in his 'Cuda. They were both very nice and comfortable for those "no throttle lift" power shifts.

Mine wasn't a Hurst but it was still very good mine had a Borg Warner T10 trans and I don't know if Ford made
the shift or not but it worked very well.

My favorite was the '69 Mopar B Body w/console..PIC

I had this particular set up on one of my '69 Roadrunners. For whatever reason, the Mopar engineers specified a shift lever with a big dogleg in it, I guess to bring it closer to the driver's hand. Anyway, it looked really cool, and the Hurst mechanism and shift rods insured flawless operation. These pics are of a '69 1/2 Super Bee on ebay.

My 1968 Super Bee, 1969 Dart 340, 1969 Charger SE

In other words the Hurst 4speed in the 68 up Mopar. The upland or inland [what ever it was called] T-reverse lock out in the Mopar line before 1967 was the worst. FROM WORST TO BEST.

Loved the looks of this one. Story:

I totaled my new 69 Coronet R/T [11 months and 36,000 miles] and bought it back from the ins. co.. I stripped it and put the interior in a 66 Coronet 440 and the entire drive train in a stripped down 68 Coronet Deluxe 4dr sd; boy that Hurst shifter looker real strange with no counsel, it is virtually bent in a U to come up through the center of the councel and over to and slightly back to the driver. BEAUTIFUL IN THE COUNCEL BUT VERY STRANGE WITHOUT.

Short Shifter

I put one of those shifter in my 1987 5.0. but found it allowed more noise in the cabin so I went back to stock. I am a purest when it comes to design. Since I Don't drag race the little old lady from Pasadena. Why have it although I did race a gentleman with a Ferrari we got into a street race on side streets , but we departed. I would of liked to talk with the guy just for fun. my car was stock so was my engine and drive train. But we had a good duel for a mile or so.

My '69 Camaro when friend Dave's friend was was in the back seat, leaning forward with a hand on each headreast. As we were driving away from the curb and still in 1st (he was talking how fast his 383 Cuda was) so I mashed the pedal, bang 2nd, and watch him fly backwards. A Yenko 427 car is no car "not" to hang on in...
