This 1967 Mercury Cougar T/A is one a a few survivors left that raced in the Trans Am that year. Like Smokey Yunick's Sunoco Camaros, the chassis was acid dipped and then strengthened with a well designed roll bar. It runs a 340 HP 2X4 bbl Hi-Po 289. The car was built and campaigned by an employee of Burien Mercury Dealers in Seattle, Washington. It's shod with proper big Goodyears on American mag wheels. The car is still running in Historic Trans Am events. I like the bumper sticker.

I think you meant Roger Penske Sunoco Camaro's, I don't believe Smokey Yunick ever had Sunoco sponsorship. Vic Edelbrock owns one of the three Yunick Camaros the other two I don't think exist anymore, but I might be wrong on that but at least one of the three can't be accounted for. Yunick took three Camaros to Bonneville two small blocks and a big block to set land speed records. On the way to Bonneville he stopped by Riverside International Raceway flat towing behind a pickup truck one of the small block Camaros and had Lloyd Ruby run I think is was three laps and was faster than the Fords who were there testing that day. Bud Moore came over and looked at the Yunick Camaro and told Smokey Yunick it would never pass inspection, After Lloyd Ruby complete the laps he left the track just as quick as he had shown up and the track organizers told Smokey Yunick to load up and get the car out of there. Here are the 1/18 scale replicas of that car.

On a side note Smokey Yunick entered a Camaro in the 1969 24 Hours of Daytona but the track officials would not pass the car in inspection. I believe this was before he signed with Ford when Bunkie Knudson became head of Ford and talked Yunick into working with Ford.

@john3976 I thought the Smokey - Sunoco connection wasn't right. I should never take 'experts' on the internet at face value.

That's a great-looking racing Mercury Cougar from SunStar. I have SunStar's upgraded 1/18  '67 Cougar in civilian, deep maroon form and it is among my favorites.
