more than a bit of stunning presentation

It's a great Sunstar model (& color! )...but I had to remove the skirts on mine. These '59 Mercs are great; I'd love to see other years produced in the Platinum Series! 🤨 🤨Â
Oh yeah.... HOW ABOUT 1959 A FOUR DOOR SUNSTAR??  "HINT, HINT" 😉 😉 Â
It wouldn't take much to tool one up... 3/4 of YOUR tooling is already complete!
Collectors will buy it!! 🤑 🤑 🤑 🤑Â
I've got cash in hand to buy a model just like the one you pictured there Chris !Â

I also have the red/white top 2-door coupe (which doesn't have the real wheel skirts) and SunStar additionally made a top-up convertible. They are really nice Platinum Series 1959 Mercurys.
The Sunstar models are very well done. I have the RED Hardtop version of this '59 Mercury and love it. Your pics of the convertible are fantastic! Â

I have the red Mercury hardtop, too and it's great ! That one doesn't have the rear wheel skirts, so there is a nice choice there with the different element. The top-up convertible looks sensational, too, and SunStar has always done a very neat actual textured top made out of a fabric material.
I recall Tom Haverland from Highway 61 talking on the old Diecast Pub forum about trying to engineer a diecast car model so that it could possibly be then, with minimum tooling changes, be later changed into another year or configuration or a possible racing-type version. The '52-'53 Hudsons and race version ; the 1967 mid-size Plymouths ; the '64 and '65 Dodges and mid-sized Plymouths and I think perhaps some others tried to follow this concept which could save on tooling costs and get the most out of a mold. Some things weren't as easy (or possible) as they seemed to be and in a number of cases, once the change was made, you could probably not then effectively/economically go back. The four-door 1953 Kaiser Dragon was a special and unfortunate case and not really H61's fault. Â
I think Sunstar did excellent work on their '67-68 Cougars.
The '68s even had realistic side marker lights made of colored plastic as opposed to just slapping on decals.Â
I applaud Sunstar for that detail.

They did a fine job with this one and that upgrade was well done, too.
