(Pics) 1953 Kaiser

For '53, Kaiser had the beautifully styled Manhattan coupe. Offering a V-8 in those years, like many others makes were doing would have increased sales, but the Manhattan took a back seat to no one when it came to a great looking, well-built car.

Highway 61's Kaiser Manhattan is a tremendous model in every area and a real knockout on display. The final image is digitally altered to show a 1953 Kaiser Dragon 4-door sedan. H61 was working on a version before circumstances very unfortunately halted the project.

the V8 Kaiser....

a deal was struck with Oldsmobile to use their V8, but government demands for Korean War production nixed the plan.

Yet Kaiser used GM's hydromatic transmissions for years. Thanks for the great pictures.

That can't be right. The GM hydramatic plant burned down in 1953.

GM had production back up and running within 2 months at a temporary plant and then bought (ironically) the giant Kaiser-Willis plant (a former WWII bomber production plant) at Willow Run for a permanent Hydramatric production line. A real crash program !
