I'm looking at their 71 Plymouth Road Runner and it does appear pretty nice. Thanks guys for any replies.

Well, I think many of AW models are, in fact, diecasts using Ertl's tooling. Yet, I believe in a number of cases AW has added upgrades in detail and in finish.

Most of Ertl's molds were really well done, so this, combined with some detail improvements makes for a very nice 1/18 model !

From the few I've had, a resounding affirmative! They're more on par with GMP.

In my opinion, the old Ertl's don't come close.

Most AW 1:18 releases are the old Ertl molds, with improvements. Better finishes comes to mind, also more detailed chassis. Just remember some are made with dog leg hinges (oldest molds) yet many are with the newer correct style hinges (newer old molds). Some they have added plug wires, updated wheel molds, carpeting, etc'. Overall nice cars, some very nice. All I can suggest is read the full descriptions of the cars that some sites offer, with multiple photos. Then buy what you like.

I think you're thinking of the Authentics molds here Marlowe.

AW also does a lot with the old ERTL molds but they do try to make upgrades.

The '71 RR is an old ERTL mold with dog leg hinges.

Not sure how tolerant you are of mistakes but if you're thinking of the Tawny Gold '71 Road Runner, you should be aware that it has the incorrect GTX rocker moldings installed but painted body color. At least all the pics I've seen so far have them but the pics may be of a prototype and could have been corrected in final production. This is really weird since they have a correct mold for the RR sans the moldings (at least they got it right on a number of prior releases).

production RR's do NOT have rocker moldings - AW did it correct.
