This is Ertl's very nice 1/18 version of the 1970 Ford Torino as done in Ertl's standard line. The blue one is just a color test done in the computer many years ago.

This era of Torino CJ design didn't really grab me back in the day but I sure like it now.  I must say though that I still much prefer the '68-'69 design especially the coupe.

Being the contrarian that I am....   I must say, I've always liked 1970 Torinos (especially the convertibles ), it's the '68-'69s that I'm just now starting to warm up to. I'm really surprised a 1/18 1970/'71 convertible has never been offered.

The 1970-71 Torinos are good-looking cars and fora while I had a 1:1 1971 with a 2-barrel 351 V-8 engine. I also have one of Ertl's cool 1976 Torinos in blue (also done as the red "Starsky and Hutch" vehicle), and although a bigger car, still looks really nice

Those Torino's from 1970 on IMO are just some of the most ugly looking fat cars that I've ever seen. They didn't need to be that big. They were just huge and especially ugly when the big bumpers came in front and rear.

I personally know that in 1974 I was driving the Trans Am I had but I only kept it for a year or so because gas prices were so expensive.

I put another motor in the Opel Kadette. I had and drove that for a couple of years until I bought my first Scirocco and then I bought the brand new Scirocco. A' '78 actually it was November '77 and it was sitting on the showroom floor at my local VW dealership and I had that car till 1985 and I sold that to somebody that lived on my mail route

That's when Pam and I became engaged and we needed a four-door sedan for our family so I purchased a brand new Nissan Maxima and since it was summer of 85 there had been a car strike actually a car transporter strike and so when my car came in it was a brand new 86 and it was a different color from what I ordered and I remember that the dealership called me and said that Steve the color you requested is not here this is a brand new color and do you want it or not because everybody's drooling over this color and they want to buy it so you better contact us within the next hour so we hold it for you.

I kept that Maxima for the next 3 years until the body style was changed and I didn't love them anymore.

As I noted, I really like the 1970 Torino design, but to your point.... FoMoCo went "big"  in 1970 & '71.  Torinos, Rancharos, Mustangs, Falcons, and Galaxie/LTDs all became larger.
