(PICS) My "last" Mustang? 1/18 1978 w/T-Tops.
In my quest to acquire "a few" 1/18 Mustangs representing each generation from 1965 to the present, this 1978 'Stang is about the last one I need (for a while).
Having owned Greenlight's 1/18 1976 Mustang for years and thinking it was a VERY good buy @ $25.00 (with a see through grill, photo-etched parts, aspect door hinges, excellent turning radius, flocking for carpet, great wheels, etc...) I wanted their '78 to complete the "range."
This T-Top version (how many 1/18 have T-Tops?) is good but I can see where GL cut corners to lower their costs. Two things that bug me are the fact that the hatch doesn't open nearly as much as the 1976 model do to T-Tops being incorporated into the hinge set-up. This leads to my #2 gripe....the T-Tops cannot be removed (at least without major re-engineering of the hatch hinges).
Anyway, I tried to get a few shots at the shop (it's also a hang out...lol) but an early Grad party was forming and too many people, along with other Mustang owners, were getting in the way.

That's a pretty nice looking model. I don't have any of those years in my 'stang collection.
Can you post some pics of the '76?
I'm hoping to get two of their '70's Mustangs in the near future too, but haven't seen one...
... up close yet.
I'm also in the process of collecting some of their '70's Camaros and I'm pretty sure that the roof panels on the ones of those that have t-tops are also not removable (currently, the only one I have is one of the hardtop versions).
This also bugs me, but I do agree that their models are very nice overall, especially for the price. Really, though, I kind of feel like if you're not going to design the models with panels that are removable, you should just design it with a solid top. That's just me, though.
Can't have too many Mustangs !
(PICS) Yes, yes I can.

Alan, I agree. "Removable T-Tops" should be, well...removable! I too need a few of their Camaros...
...I do like how they offer different wheel options, roof options, spoilers, etc... It's very smart of them to "capture" many years with really one mold.
Yeah. One collector car (1:1) I've nevered owned but after collecting all of these "toys"....
..That may change.
Yeah, as I stated. Not too bad for the price ($31.00). You gotta love those cheezy ground effects.
I sure do remember seeing those here in SoCal. I like it! I just might have to hunt one down. Thnx C
Yep! I agree with you too, Christopher! They're supposed to...
... be coming out with a couple of '81 Z28's in the next month or two. I used to have an '80, which is almost identical to the '81, and I'm really looking forward to those!
I'm hoping, though, that they'll eventually make a metallic blue '80 or '81. The ones coming out are supposed to be white with red trim (which is a nice combination) and gold with black trim (which I'm not crazy about, but will probably get anyway).
Mine was actually a teal green (not a factory color), but I had always planned to repaint it in blue with blue trim. Unfortunately, I had to part with it before I ever did that.
The Sunstar '82 Camaro has removeable t-tops. But i got mine years ago.
Right, but an '82 Sun Star is completley different than an '81 Greenlight.
lol...i didn't know cuz I'm jus not that familiar with bowties..sorry!
No problem Steve.
