(PICS) Nice little 1/18 Premium X (IXO) resin 1961 Corvair.
Tires are wrong (whitewalls should be wider for '61) but otherwise a great & well thought out execution of this popular sedan. Too bad (being resin) it has zero working features.

It looks like a nice little model. I wouldn't have noticed the white walls.

(PIC) Factory accurate whitewalls for 1961. Those who know me, know that I'm......
...very "particular" about historically accurate or factory correct tires on my replicas and my real collector cars. For 1961 (that last year for "wide" whites) 2.25 white-walls would've been installed had one chosen optional whitewalls. The "slim-lines" seen on the IXO model would've been available starting in 1962.
It's all in the details man!

Nothing wrong with that. Some model makers really need to research the details better.
It does look better with the wider whites.

I'm the same way Chris. I corrected the white walls on my DM 61 Bird coupe because they are wrong. There was an exception however ... 61 Impala SS's had narrow w/w's. The regular version had wide whites from the factory.

David, I need to widen the white walls on the 61 coupe.
What gets me is that they did the correct white wall width on the pace car and convertible. Duh.
Agreed!
Correct. And even as early as 1958 "slim-bans" could had on certain cars but the rule is .....
..."really" wide whites on post war cars up 'til 1953-54. 2-2.75" wide from 1955-1961. 1.75-2" wide "slim bans' starting in 1962. Again, there were exceptions. Studebaker & Lincoln for example, could be ordered with "wide whites" in 1962.
Crazy!
Whitewall Tires
Anyone else remember Uniroyal Masters: Thin band whitewalls with an even thinner red line between the white stripe and the wheel? I remember seeing them on a Caddy Sedan in 1958.
I wasn't around then (I grew up in the '70's) but I know of them. Available on Vettes (in '58) too.
I THINK. I'm sure Corvette experts could confirm or deny this. I am NOT a Corvette expert.
Not positive, but I believe GM had, on the books, optional narrow ban white-walls (on certain models) in 1958.
Beautiful replica of a '61 Corvair 700, Christopher. Only two minor issues...
Instead of a package shelf behind the rear seat there was a storage cavity. And on the 500 and 700 series cars there was no horn ring on the steering wheel. The Monza series had a half ring. A great model, however, of that iconic 1st generation Corvair. My dad had a '61 700 Lakewood wagon in Arbor Green. They were great handling cars and much maligned by the critics such as Ralph Nader.

Thanks for the insight Dave. This model should sell well.
