(PICS) Sunstar's 1955 Pontiac with wheelcovers...no wires! For some...
...reason I can stomach the wires much better on the yellow convertible than I can on the black/red hardtop.
Perhaps it's because the way in which Sunstar painted a "black ring" around the wire caps or because I just don't like wires much to begin with.
Intially, I painted the "black ring" red but the paint reacted to chemicals in the tire. The red paint became "gooey" ...need-less-to-say I had a mess!
Then I thought I'll just model my own 1955 Pontiac wheelcovers; it would take a while but what other choice do I have?
Then it hit me. I have a "junker" red 1958 Bonney, why not use those. Afterall, those wheelcover are CLOSE in design and have TAMPO "Pontiac" letters printed in the center.
After an hour of mods it all came together. I like it.

Chris, this is somewhat off subject, but do you pay that guy with the buffer by the hour? I've never seen him actually buffing a car...he just stands there looking at all of your cars. Nice work if you can get it. I am not a big fan of the 55 Pontiac wire wheel covers either. I was hoping that when they released the convertible that it would have the regular wheelcovers, skirts, a rear fender antennae and the front bumper guard.
He is stoned Bob.
QUESTION: the hood ornament on the hardtop is amber whereas the one on the convertible is clear. Is that correct?
They both look super !!!
Yep, that's correct, Robert. Either the hardtop or convertible versions from SunStar are magnificent diecast models ..... among the very best, in my view !
Bob's right ..... they both look terrific, Chris.
They are both right. Certain State Laws at the time prohibited amber so they got clear ones.
Bob, like I tell everyone else who asks about my mechanics....they work for "scale" ( last time LOL)
Thanks guys...I'm hopeful that we'll see a "lesser loaded" 1952 Nash with wheelcovers.
gooey paint problem.....
I first had this problem painting whitewalls on this old Delahaye. I waited a month for it to set. If you use Model Master enamels like I do, switch over to an acrylic enamel like Tamiya and it'll set just fine.

Richard, my "gooey paint" was on the rim not the tire. Only the outer surface of....
.....the rim was affected. Any painted part of the rim that DID NOT come in contact with the tire was NOT affected. Strange.
I like what you've done... and what a terrific set of snaps...
Wish I can take out that windshield sticker on my model.
:))
Eddie ..thankfully Sunstar no longer includes those oversized stickers.
