As a worthy successor to the GT40 Mkll, this long tailed beauty, designed and built by Kar Kraft and Shelby American with an eye toward Le Mans. 12 of these J-car chassis were built, and, out of the gun, the GT40 MklV took a victory lap at the 1967 Le Mans. Before the season was over, its 550 HP 427 V8 engine was banned and displacement was now limited to 305 cid. The reaction? Carroll Shelby closed down Shelby American and went hunting in Africa. The small block Mkll continued to pester the Europeans for a few more years, but the J cars wound up as a footnote in history.
I have Exoto's Holman- Moody Andretti #3 (J-7) model but I can't find the pics. So here's that same J-7 in Standox Chromillusion Kyalami Flash which really shows off the beautiful lines on the car.
A very impressive car.
Beautiful design...and obviously a monster in its time!
I also have the Holman and Moody #3 but have no pics to share either. Didn't someone also make a model of the remains of #3?

Good memory, Paul. I do remember seeing that wreck modeled. Exoto made it, I think.
@rich-sufficool The base was indeed an Exoto model but the 'crash' modification was done by the late great Dennis Koleber who was the man behind so many of the Exoto 'Finish Line' models.
I'm happy to have 4 of the MKIV cars including the Sebring and Le Mans winners and the famous #2 'Duct Tape' car - another Koleber creation.
Thanks Rich and Frank for clarifying.
@chris I have one... but the hood doesn't open. LOL
@marty-johnson ...oh yeah, I see you now. You're off to the side - drooling. 😉
@rich-sufficool ......well, so long as the trunk still works, I'll be able to sleep nights. 😉
