London Taxis International (LTI) took over the development of the Austin Taxi FX series of London's hackney cabs in 1984 with production of the Fairway given to Manganese Bronze. The engine used would now be the 2.7 liter Nissan diesel 6 with automatic transmission. The now more powerful and reliable Fairway was also wheel chair accessible which allowed LTI to sell overseas as well as in the rest of the UK where such accessibility was mandatory. the end of the era for the Austin London cab series that began in 1962 came in 2006 when the government demanded that all London taxis comply with the Euro 3 emission regulations which the Nissan engine was in non-compliance. To try to save their reliable Fairways, many owners resorted to aftermarket turbocharger or exhaust recirculation systems. Sooner or later, the Fairways were replaced by a newer TX series of taxis.
