Randy..yes, I've heard of and been thru Lockport. I moved to Ca. when I was 14 so
I didn't drive and get to know the area very much. One place I really miss is Crystal Beach in Canada! My Mom an Dad used to ferry over there when they were dating. I've been there only twice..but had a fun time..especially on that roller coaster that was on the beach! Also..been to Letchworth State Park..you?
Yessir! Crystal Beach at Prom 1966! Yeah man!
I had the prettiest girl in the world with me!!!
I have been to Letchworth. I knew nothing of it as I was growing up since my parents never mentioned it. I find that very curious now. I first visited it in 1998 when my wife and I drove an eastern trip. Gorgeous!!
Do you remember Sherkston Beaches? Big sand dunes and a fabulous place to swim - Canadian shore of Lake Erie. Also Long Point Beach. Aaah....but Crystal Beach and the fabulous roller coaster!
My girlfriend and I spent a lot of time at Niagara Falls too. I still am mesmerized when I am standing next to them! End of this chapter in life. On to next chapter in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin:......College and finding my wife, now of forty years!
By the way, my wife and I spent a couple years living in San Diego in the seventies. We went there on a lark in 1975. I loved San Diego!!(still do!) She missed all the family. We moved back to Wisconsin in 1977 when we started our family. Our first daughter was born in SD. We try to get there annually.
Are you still in Southern California?
Yes Randy..still here..Anaheim. My Mom and my sister and her family live on Grand Island. I don't get back much to visit but we're having a family reunion in Castle Rock, CO where another sis and her husband live. I can't say we ever went to any of the beaches you mentioned. My mom and dad were more the camping type. I do remember going to Lake George..Chestnut Ridge Park..and a few others. Doesn't Transit Road run thru Lockport? My Grandparents had a house/small farm on it. By any chance have you ever heard of Vin-Chets Bakery/Pastry Shop? My Uncle Chet was very successful. And funny you mentioned your prom cause our 8th grade graduation class party was there in '67! Nice to hear about your family. I've always liked Wisconsin and the surrounding states as it's a beautiful area of our country. Thanks for bringing up some really good memories!
Yes Transit Road goes thru Lockport. We drove it to
Buffalo all the time.
Do you remember Eli Konikoff and his Yankee Six? A great dixieland band from Buffalo! His son Ross & I have been friends since college. He went on to be a very successful trumpet player with Buddy Rich and Liza Minelli. His other son, Mark (Eli as well) played drums with Spyro Gyra for a while. Spyro was from Buffalo too!
We had a very famous and popular restaurant in Lockport called Chet's Doghouse on West main Street. Any relation there?
You're welcome for the memories. I enjoy them too! Do you remember Chicken Man????
Paul - was Ted Heath's big band around too?
One of my favorite big band records is his "Swings in High Stereo" recorded at Kingsway Hall in 1958. He had the best jazz players always and great arrangements! And did they swing!!!!
No to all you mentioned Randy...can't say as I've any recollection.
I did know of Spyro Gyra, like their music! BTW, have you been to the Pierce-Arrow Museum? If it's still there, take a visit. I think you might also like the Naval Museum!
I like Em All!
