I just saw this post and love both the Alfa and the Jag.  Great commentary as I never thought about the design connection before.   If I think about it further and go back a  year, the Alfa Disco Volante came out as a spider in 1952.   I have it in 1:43 only by Milestone and others.   I drooled over the actual car at the Museo several years ago.

The D-Type came out in 1954!  So maybe it all started with the spider. Carrozzeria Touring from Milano always had some unique designs!

@karl Well, it may have inspired Malcolm Sayers. All the designers as well as aerodynamicists (he was both) went to all the shows and certainly followed the work of Italian coachbuilders like Bertone and Touring.
