That was the German people's nickname for the BMW501 and the V8 powered 502 sedans that were produced from 1954 to 1963. This saloon rivaled its Jaguar cousin with both being used by their respected police forces. Beyond its V8 powerplant, the 502 offered a more plush interior and extra exterior trim. This model is at least a 1955 as it features the wrap-around rear window. The early V8 was an aluminum block OHV engine with a single 2 bbl carburetor. This model had the twin carb 3.2 L producing 160 hp that was also offered starting in 1955. During its production, only 3840 of these were built.
This is a beautiful effort on the BMW 502 by AUTOart, Rich. I drove in a Bristol version of a BMW, likely a 401 in the early 1950s as a child. It was owned by an uncle and I remember a fantastic huge back seat.Would have loved to ride up front. Thanks once again for another interesting post.
With all those fantastically flowing fenders, I wonder how easy or difficult it was to produce that body.
@david-green WOW... I never put the Bristol and the 501/2 together. Interesting... thanks.
the little details are appreciated and this model has plenty
