The Jaguar XJR-9 was another Tom Walkinshaw creation designed for high end on the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans. The 5.3 liter V12 of the XJS was beefed up to 7.0 liters developing 750 hp for the Le Mans WSPC and a 6.0 liter variant for IMSA. The prototypes went in two different direction with the "Silk Cut" sponsored winning at Le Mans and enough wins in the series for the Teams Championship as well as the Drivers title. The Castrol sponsored cars won the 24 Hours of Daytona over all to kick off the IMSA Camel GTP season but didn't win again until the last race of the season. It was only a one year success for this car as in 1989 they were obsolete being beaten soundly by Nissan.
I bought this Castrol #60 Daytona winner from Exoto's Motorbox line, because it was a winner, I like my Jags in BRG, and Tony K was dumping them at a steep discount (and not necessarily in that order).
I have this Exoto too Rich. Love it! Once again you have delivered an exceptional Jaguar post with excellent images. I’ve missed out on a few attempts to buy the Silk Cut Le Mans winner at a reasonable price but have several in other scales. I will keep hunting.
