Actually, I believe Ertl issued a Firebird like this too.

This is a 1/18 "full size" (not a smaller-in-scale ) Pontiac GTO funny car. The body is 100% plastic, like an AMT or MPC  model.  During my "Pontiac phase," years ago, I picked this up, not knowing it was plastic. HW61's '66 Beswick's Pontiac also opens & comes apart but that's a diecast body (Rich has BETTER pics!! )  This Ertl GTO is a bit special.

Interestingly, for funny cars, plastic is more correct as most (not all) of the bodies of the 1:1 cars were fiberglass.

I don't have the Beswick '69 funny car anymore.  The Logghe chassis was sacrificed to make my Don Nicholson '66 Mercury Comet.

Here are a few more plastic 1:18 models.

Hmm......  Always a treat to see your Don Nicholson Comet, and there's that Firebird I alluded to, but I was unaware that all those other models, with the exception of Challenger I, were plastic/resin. And yes, a scale plastic funny car body is more accurate than metal.  I have other "plastics,"  but they're not "full size"  like this GTO.

For as old as that model is, the Arnie Beswick GTO has an absolute wealth of detail and build quality. It always gets high visibility in my displays.
