Road Signature's 1958 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser was a relatively inexpensive model with old tech hinges and a lot of omitted details requiring paint, foil and other tweaks, but the model, overall has great bones. Blackwashing the grill, side spears and the wheel covers were a must. The front fender 'cross' roundel was fortified with a die cut circle of clear butyrate to make it look 3-D. The tiny clear shield on the trunk lid was red washed to reveal the Mercury crest and the wheel wells received heavy foil trim. The interior got the missing yellow paint on the lower dash and steering wheel and the rest of the interior got proper foil trim including the door sills. The engine bay just got a bit of paint. I only wish I could have made photoetched scripts for the exterior.
The upgrades look good! I always liked the TC because it was so over-the-top ostentatious! With the continental kit, it must be a BIGGIN'!
You've done an excellent job on detailing this lovely model. I'm not familiar with 1/18 and so going to the pictures first - like any self-respecting brat - I only appreciated the careful work on reading, afterwards. Otherwise, it all looks factory finished.
Regarding Photo-etching, I've often wondered if there is some kind of digital cutting device that will cut from fine, sheet aluminium - or other alloy - downloaded script? Perhaps there are independent modellers who take-on such commissions?
This is a terrific Yat Ming 1/18 replica and quite a Mercury car ! I have that same great color TC and it is a favorite.
@rich-sufficool FOR SURE!!!
There's a handful of 1/24 DM & FM cars I WISH were available in 1/18. That '57 TPC is definitely among them.
Beautiful work Rich. I must really like the TPC as I have it in three scales.
Wonderful extra detail work as always Rich.
