The next step with the Cobras in 1963 was to replace the 260 XHP with the newly built solid lifter 271 HP Windsor K-Code 289 and for competition, add an aluminum high rise intake crowned with 2X4 bbl carburetors and mill the heads to 10.5:1 compression with a resultant 400+ HP rating. Although still an AC roadster at heart (I love the "AC" foot pedals), it has a bit of sheet metal riveted on the front fenders to accommodate those Halibrand wheels with fat Goodyears. The white #97 was driven by Skip Hudson at the '63 Daytona Continental and didn't fair to well:
The red #98 was driven by Al Holbrook and Ken Miles placing 2nd at the '63 Road America 500.
