The quest for speed and traction evolved over the years. This 1962 Pontiac Catalina with the 421SD 2X4bbl set updemonstrated the theory that if you raised the front end, more weight would be transferred to the rear wheels. By 1965, this 389 3X2bbl GTO returned to an even stance with ladder bars to prevent wheel hop and resist torque lift. A few years later, the opposite philosophy was emploed with the front end lowered and the rear end raised.
