My friend sent me an unpainted resin kit 1/18 kit of Dan Gurney and when assembling, you position the limbs as though he's leaving the cockpit of a Daytona coupe. As far as a resemblance goes, you never really know what you've got until you paint. The mildly translucent quality of the resin doesn't help. I took one of my Exoto Daytonas to help the assembly and I got this painting aid from my friend:
Before I affixed the head, I slapped some paint on it and I knew I was in trouble.
It looked HIDEOUS!!! A lot of times with judicious usage of highlights and shadows you can massage a good resemblance with paint. Here's the best I could do:
I definitely saw the resemblance, but it was of '30s to early '40s actor Rondo Hattan whose features were a result of acromegaly. He played mostly murderous psychopaths like "The Creeper".
Well, anyway, here's some pics of the Daytona to take your mind from that frightening visage. As to the gurney model kit, I highly DON'T recommend it.

Rich, you did a GREAT job painting/posing this figure. SHINEY cloths are a NO-NO and you OBVIOUSLY know all about that! The face turned out as well as possible; you did the VERY best you could with what you had, however, "Barney Oldfield" he ain't!  LoL 😀 😬Â
May I suggest goggles and a mustache? 🤔 🤔 🤨Â
@chris Good Lord!!! It's Graham Hill!!! What a transformation.... sheer genius. LOL
Great model, interesting Gurney figure which I think you did a creditable job, given what you started with. I’ve done a variety of figures over the years and can safely say that most looked no better when compared to the intended driver. I had the best luck with Moss and Fangio. Thanks Rich.
