What are your two most expensive 1/18 scale cars?
1. Amalgam Ford GT40 MKI 1969 Le Mans Winner $1,650 including tax and shipping.
2. CMC 1964 Porsche 901 $1,625 including tax and shipping.
I am lucky that I can indulge a little from time to time and purchase expensive 1/18 scale cars. Out of the 252 1/18 scale cars and trucks these two are at the top of the list price wise, The MNTrailers come in third.
...wow, and to think I passed on those 1/18 CMC 1964 Porsches when they were $287 on eBay. 🙄 🙄
Of all my vehicle replicas (here's a few pics ) including many Autoarts, and some Minichamps, CMCs, and Exotos, I've never paid more than $170 for anything... with the exception of a few (not all ) from overseas. These 3, about $200-ish each, come to mind:
$1,650 for a 1:18 model! Gulp! My financial portfolio is screaming, "Holy Buckaroos!!!"
Well, hands down, the most expensive 1:18 scale models are my modifications. In the early days, I spared no expense to achieve my goals.
My first extensive modification was the Butch Leal California Flash altered wheelbase 1965 Plymouth funny car. It was my very first extensively modified diecast model, so I spent a ton of money. I don't know how much money I spent, but I'm certain it was over $3,000. For example, I spent a couple hundred on having the headlight cones machine shop cut. I contracted two machine shops to cut the metal (the first one failed) for me. I later learned that I could cut them myself, but when I was doing that first one, I was ignorant of my options. A fun note: While the paint was still drying on that Butch Leal car, Supercar Collectibles announced they were producing all of the 1965 Altered Wheelbase funny cars. The Butch Leal California Flash was one of 'em! LOL! 🤩
My next most expensive was probably my Dyno Don Nicholson 1966 Comet Cyclone flip-top funny car. I purchased a GMP Fairlane for the roof and a GMP Ohio George Mustang for the front Halibrand wheels. In total, four diecast models (Arnie Beswick Funny Car for the chassis and a Sun Star Comet for the body) were used to create it. I'm guessing I spent about $2,000 to $2,500 on that model.
Regarding production cars, I'm not exactly sure but I think the most I ever spent is $700 or $800 for my Exoto D Type Jaguar. I spent about $700 Simolians on my CMC Ferrari 250 GTO.
Those are very nice... I paid about $55 for that '59 limo but I remember those being "blown out" on eBay for $49. Several months later you couldn't find them. During the last few years, they've gone for about $250-$350
I don't know how much money I spent, but I'm certain it was over $3,000.
An astonishing figure (that I know to be true ) but like SO MANY OTHER things in life: You don't know what you don't know!
......when one does something for the very first time. Lord knows I too, discovered some things the hard way!
That being said, your FIRST AWB project was like something from Mars... NO ONE had ever seen ANYONE fabricate a 1/18 AWB 1960's drag car! It was so VERY cool! 😎 😎 So cool, that YOU inspired ME to make one of my own! ... and I purchased a few SC-1 AWB models too. 😏 😏

Chris,
They're all beautiful models my. I really like the Cadillac. So, it was near the $200 mark and I was just wondering because you included a pic of a gorgeous hubcap. You know me right ?
So my question is, is there a tire valve stem somewhere in that hubcap that I haven't seen ?
😂

Valve stems were not included but there is ONE MAJOR flaw that was well known, BEFORE I made the purchase..... for some reason, NO white back-up lights were ever tooled for these Fleetwoods. They should appear, horizontally, on each side just above the rear bumper. This is something I could fix but haven't (yet ).
I think my most expensive cars are my Exotos that I paid around $160. about 20 years ago. My most expensive car I have sold was a GMP Mustang on ebay for $700, to a buyer who said it completed his collection
WOW!!! I can't believe that CMC 901 was $1625. Is it that rare? I was lucky enough to get that model for free from CMCUSA as a review piece.

Like you, Rich, I had a good number of issues sent for photos and reviews. Of the 1/18th's, Tony K. sent me this one and I bought a second set from him. I note that Exoto's website shows them at $4500.

@marty-johnson That's happened to me I don't know how many time, I barely get done with a project when some company releases the same damned model
I bought the 901 when it was first offered.but can't remember what I paid for it but it was below $300.00.
but it was below $300.00.
Yep! As I noted, I passed when they were $287 (w/free shipping 🙄 🙄). I rarely collect foreign vehicles, despite being SUPER impressed with this one.
John paid $1,600, Tony reported they're at $4,500.... GEEZ, this CMC is EASILY in the 1/18 Top Five for Investment-Grade Diecasts. Yikes! 😬 😬 😬

I WISH IT WOULD HAPPEN TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😩 😩 😩 😩
