From 1971-72, Chrysler (Australia) released their VH Valiant Charger R/T E49 Hemi "6 Pack" with a eye towards serious road racing. The "Hemi" was actually a 265 cid 6 cylinder that produced an astounding 302 hp. It was a few years before the Porsche Turbo 6 could exceed that much power. Oddly, they passed on Chrysler's venerable slant six that had all sorts of power upgrade parts and went with a tradition configuration. The multi-carbed hemispherical head engine was outfitted with a 'basket of snakes' header that fed independent (no crossover) dual exhausts. Successor platforms offered both the 318 and 340 V8s that offered no more than 275hp  from the 340. One intrepid Aussie resurrected one of these Chargers and brought into the 21th century as a 10 second drag car managing a whopping 460 turbocharged hp from this little 265 cid six in a beautiful restoration (last pics).

I never got around to buying one, I always really liked this model & it looks like AA did a fantastic job.  I remember when these could be picked up cheap from GoMotorBids (anyone remember that place?).

Wow, what super nice Autoart! Oh, now I get it.... (this car was always a mystery ) ...it had a 6 CYLINDER HEMI! 🙄 🙄 😯 😯 I never put all that together.  Another thing I could never understand is why Chrysler spent money of such unique body tooling. You mean they couldn't cobble together something from existing US tooling/bodies?

Ford & GM did the same thing in both Australia & Europe.  Different markets have different needs.  Very few "world" market cars have been hits.

It's a good-looking (and performing) car and model ! AUTOArt captured the look beautifully with excellent details here, too. You would normally think Chrysler's Slant-Six engine would be used.
