(Well, it does look bigger than the B-52's Chrysler) With a profile that looks like a humpback whale and that huge baleen-like maw that could strain krill from the ocean, this huge 1947 Buick Roadmaster Model 70 Estate Wagon could take a whole crowd to the 'Love Shack' in style. With its wood clad body by Hercules (not the demi-god), this behemoth cost a whopping $3249 and was Buick's most expensive model. A mere 300 of these were produced and only 4 known restored survivors, I would imagine that the vast majority were done in by failing to perform the yearly re-varnishing of the maple and mahogany woodwork as recommended. Equipped with the 144 HP 320.2 cid "Fireball" OHV straight 8, 3 speed transmission and 4 wheel hydraulic brakes, this well appointed estate wagon has quite a presence. This Danbury Mint model has a similar 'presence' on my shelf.
The burgundy color and wood compliment each other. A beautiful model AND pics Rich. Thanks.💯😊
Beautiful pics and clever write-up Rich!
A great look at a really beautiful automobile and replica !
What a monster. Was it faster to 60 than a post war VW, given its size and weight? Thanks Rich.
All of the DM 47 and 48 Buicks are favorites in my collection.
@bob-jackman Great photos as usual Rich. This one really gets my attention whenever I’m checking out my display. I think that engine bay has to be one of Danbury’s best, and the hood action is ingenious! Please keep this format coming, I’m always looking forward to them.
mine too Bob. Had to wait years to finally land this one, a brilliant model. thanks RichAll of the DM 47 and 48 Buicks are favorites in my collection.
