Here's another look at WCPD 1961 Impala - these two convertibles are well-suited.

Love them both but I prefer the look of the non-SS version with the wider whites.

Two great '61 Chevy's from the many that WCPD gave us.  With regard to John Bono's comment about the wider whites, I agree because if memory serves me correctly, I believe the thin whites didn't come in to vogue until 1962.  Thus to be period correct, the '61 should have the wide whites.  That said, I do think the thin whites to look okay on the '61.  Nice photos John Merritt!

Hi George!  The 1961 Impala SuperSport was available in all five Impala models beginning in the Spring of 1961:  Convertible, Sport Coupe, Sport Sedan, two-door Sedan, and four-door sedan. According to my source, there were only 453 SuperSports built in the 1961 model year, pretty rare, most were sport coupes or convertibles.  I wouldn't mind having a sports sedan with the SS option like the brochure below shows!  Anyway, as the brochure clarifies, the narrow band white wall tire was only available on 1961 Impalas with the SuperSport option.  Exclusivity in 1961 became the norm in 1962!

1961 Impala Super Sport3
1961 Impala Super Sport1 (2)
1961 Impala Super Sport2 (2)
1961 Impala Super Sport4

I have the Corona Cream convertible and the black SS Sport Coupe.  Beautiful models.

Excellent Pete. I appreciate the info. A Sport Sedan with the SS option would have been great. I don't remember ever seeing one before, I wonder how many were built.

Probably just the one used in the brochure photo!!  In reality, the number is most likely closer to zero.
