What could be more British than shopping at Harrods luxury department store in the posh central location of Knightsbridge in central London? Actually it's now owned by the Arab State of Qatar... but anyway... And what can be more British than the 1961 Jaguar XKE. It should have come from the factory with the Union Jack emblazoned on the doors. Well, if you were shopping at Harrods in 1999, what better souvenir to bring back to the States but this Franklin Mint cabriolet model that commemorated Harrods 150th anniversary? The model itself is old tech with dogleg hinges, a 2-D applique dash and a rather waxy plastic tub. But, at the time, this model and its hardtop companion were both nice additions to anyone's 1/24 diecast collection.
Both the roadster and the coupe still hold up nicely in my display cases.
It is still a great looking model, and a great looking 1:1 scale car.
