The sole reason I collect models is for the history of the automobile and the reasonable accuracy. I have never bought one for the opening parts or the material the model is made from. To be fair the prices mentioned for the FM and DM do not reflect what they might be today.
@georgeschire You have to remember the Mints produced 5 figures from a single tooling whereas, 500 is a decent run for these resins. Just amortizing the design costs and the tooling eats up a lot of potential profits.
Don't forget the silver and gold:
And don't forget the cost of each at $500. They're not worth it. My opinion!

@pete-rovero You're right, Pete. If I were to buy one back in the day, I would have ordered it with whitewalls. Why? It makes that beast more of a 'sleeper' as we called them. Badass blackwalls would have been more of a cop magnet (rather than a chick magnet). Blackwalls on a car like that attracted more the 'wrong attention' than those tiny [7 Liter] badges. I had a crimson metallic Golden Commando Satellite back then and I put fake wire wheel covers on it to make it look more sedate.
@georgeschire Well, there were only 5 of the silver 7 Liters built, so it's a rare bird. As to the Antique Gold one, I don't remember the build number, but the $499 pricetag is just for the last one available.

I understand. But for me, I'm not in to "rare". I just want to be able to have and afford models without feeling guilty I bought them. Yes they are collectibles, but I only buy them for my personal enjoyment, I do NOT buy them because they are "ones of kind" or going to appreciate in value. They sit on my shelves for me to look at and if I die tomorrow, they were NOT bought for my kids to get rich from.

I too have models with no moving parts but I do prefer the ones that do have features, maybe I'm just a show off sometimes.

Since they're not toys, movable parts never mattered to me. Static models that look nice in their respective cases on my shelves is perfect for me. But not for $300 and upwards per model.

You are quite right to pursue your hobby as it pleases you, as I'm sure we all do on these pages. When we focus on these cars - of whatever shape or size - they speak to us as the grim reality of daily life often does not!I guess I am willing to sacrifice more than I should sometimes for my hobby.
@david-vandermeer You're quite right to show-off that Town and Country. It's stunning and always a joy to see.
