Celebrating the Corvette
Every once in a while, I like to take a look at my Corvette models - I think it's time to that again, LOL! No matter what you think of the Corvette, love it or hate or even "just on the fence" you can't deny its influence in the American Automotive Culture. They are everywhere.Â
Since I drive by the GM Proving Grounds in Milford, Michigan twice a day I get to see the latest generation of the Corvette pretty regularly. I usually pass a couple or so coming or going with each trip. There was a time late last summer that on the road from M-59 to General Motors Road, I started seeing one after another, five, six or more had already passed me before I realized how many there were. I started counting them, and by the time I reached GM Road, I'd counted 22. After I passed the Proving Grounds, I saw at least 4 more traveling my direction. I'm figuring at 30+ of them were in the area that day. No idea why. That's the 2nd time I've seen a large number of Corvettes coming or going from the Proving Grounds.
Anyway, with this post, I'll start with the 1st part of Generation 1 models. I know that Gen 1 is considered to run from 1953-1962, for me, the 53-55 are so radically different in appearance from the '56-62, I consider them Part 1 & Part 2. Hey, but that's me. I've never owned a Corvette, but I have had the opportunity to drive 2 of them. I don't see myself ever owning one, but I do really appreciate them, and I am always pretty thrilled to be able to spend time with any Corvette I see on the road or at a show. I never tire of them, whatever year it is.

Great pics! Has anyone ever compiled a list of how many Corvette's were produced by all the Mints in 1:24 scale diecast? I've got to believe it's over a hundred. Â

I never have, but you are right, it must be way over a hundred because I have 113 myself and I know I don't have anywhere near all of them.

WOW! Maybe it's closer to 200 (or more). That's an incredible number to have of just one car! But I've always guessed it could be a collection in and of itself. Â
