The first is a very early FM 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante. With 36 year old tech, it doesn't offer much more that the proper shape, nice tutone paint with good separation. The engine bay lacks content and detail, and the dash is 2-D with flat decal gauges. The steering wheel is well done as are the handles and the the hood vents have painted screen inserts. The plastic wire wheels are as good as it can get with that tech. The grill and surround is also well rendered. All in all, not bad for its vintage. The only other company that offered Bugattis in 1/24 was Bburago. I bought them in kit form back then because it was easier to paint and detail them. Besides this 1932 Type 55 roadster, I also tried to super detail their T57 Atlantic with some success. The roadster, for $12.50, offered similar content as the FM. I left the engine bay bare bones, but I painted the dash in faux burl wood and punched out clear butyrate for the gauges. I wrapped the arm rests in cheap masking tape and painted it to simulate the same color leather as the upholstery. The trunk came with custom luggage that I painted to match. For me, the best Bugatti done by FM was their T35 which is just a little jewel. I may post that later. First, the FM model:

Rich, nice looking cars. Long before I got into diecast I remember seeing Bburagos at toy stores and not being impressed. Your work makes them better for sure.

@grockwood The one thing about Bburagos back when they were produced in Italy is that they always had good bones. Very early ones the paint was awful, and later just needed a good rubdown to eliminate orange peel. What they've always had is image choices you rareley found elsewhere and were amenable to painting and detailing.

I have this FM and the yellow/black version as well, just love Bugattis and the design of the Atalanate. I might have a go at one of Bburagos, you've inspired me sir!

@geoff-jowett Here's another Bburago, the iconic "Atlantic" I did a bit more detailing including wiring that straight 8. This was maybe 30 or more years ago when the Bburago was all that was out there. I couldn't fine decent aftermarket wire wheels back then, but, again, the model does have great bones. This was another kit build that cost maybe $15.
I have a better set of pics somewhere but darned if I can find them.

@rich-sufficool thanks Rich, yeh, there are plenty of Bburagos available here in the local ebay. I've been playing around with plastic kits for the las 4-5 years so time to give diecast a go. Your additional interior and engine detail looks great, thanks for the pics.
